It’s difficult to be a new phone maker in today’s market, but Chinese brand
Oukitel think they have what it takes and will kick off their international
launch with the mid-range Oukitel U8.
At $139.99 the Oukitel U8 has fierce competition from the likes of Elephone, UMi and others, but there are some very neat features in the U8 which
budget phone buyers will appreciate.
First up, Oukitel say the U8 will ship with Android 5.1
Lollipop out of the box! This is great
news and much more convenient that having to wait for OTA updates that may never appear.
Another interesting features is support for up to 128GB SD cards. With just 16GB internal memory this is excellent news for music and movie fans.
The rest of the hardware is all rather good for the money too. A 64bit quad-core
MT6735 chipset offers native
LTE, there will be
2GB RAM, a 5.5-inch 2.5D display with 1280 x 720 resolution and the cameras are a 13 mega-pixel rear and 5 mega-pixel front (although we imagine these are interpolated figures).
Those of you interested in the U8 will want to check out the official
Oukitel website. The first sales of the Oukitel U8 will begin on 15th May.
