Poco launched the
X8 Pro and
X8 Pro Max earlier this year. The standard X8 never showed up. Most people assumed it was cancelled. Tipster
Kacper Skrzypek just found it hiding in HyperOS code — and it's coming back as a global rebrand of the
Redmi Note 17 Pro.
Summary
- Poco X8 confirmed in HyperOS code: Tipster kacskrz found the device in Xiaomi's firmware, revealing a 50MP main camera and 2MP depth lens — matching the Redmi Note 17 Pro's rear setup.
- Rebranded Redmi Note 17 Pro: The Poco X8 is expected to be a relabelled version of the China-exclusive Redmi Note 17 Pro, following the same playbook as the Poco M8 Power (which rebadges the Redmi Note 17).
- Battery split between markets: India variant reportedly keeps the Chinese model's 9,000mAh cell. Global variant may ship with a slightly smaller 8,340mAh battery.
- Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED, 120Hz: Inherited specs from the Redmi Note 17 Pro, alongside 67W charging and 22.5W reverse charging.
- No launch date confirmed: Whether the X8 and Poco M8 Power launch together is unknown.
Why the X8 Was Missing — and Why It's Back
Poco's 2026 lineup skipped the standard X8 entirely when it launched the Pro and Pro Max. The most likely reason was timing — the Redmi Note 17 Pro, the phone the X8 would rebrand, wasn't ready yet. Now that the Note 17 Pro has launched in China, the global pipeline can move.
The Poco M8 Power follows the same logic, rebranding the standard Redmi Note 17. Two phones, two price tiers, same strategy: launch in China first, rebrand for global markets shortly after. It's a familiar Xiaomi approach, and it works — the Poco M8 series has consistently been well-received in India and Europe as an accessible alternative to the Redmi originals.
The Battery Story Is More Complicated Than It Looks
The 9,000mAh figure attached to the Note 17 Pro — and now the Poco X8 — will likely need adjustment when it crosses into global and Indian markets. The Chinese model uses silicon-carbon battery chemistry that's harder to certify in some markets. The global version's 8,340mAh figure suggests a conventional cell substitution that maintains most of the endurance benefit while navigating certification requirements. Both figures are well above the mid-range segment average, so the practical difference is smaller than the headline gap implies.
What Else Comes With It
The Redmi Note 17 Pro's full spec sheet translates directly to the Poco X8: a 6.83-inch AMOLED running at 1.5K resolution and 120Hz, Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 — a modest chip for a phone with this battery — 67W wired charging, 22.5W reverse charging, and an 8MP front camera. The IP66, IP68, and IP69K water resistance ratings from the Note 17 Pro should carry over too, though Poco hasn't confirmed this. No pricing or official launch date has been announced.
