While criticism goes forward around PlayStation's current generation, the PS5 keeps selling pretty well. So far, some PlayStation fans are upset with the lack of new games, announcements, or forecasts that say what they can expect from the future of the platform. After the big fiasco of some service games like Concord,
Sony had adopted a quiet profile. For now, we don't know exactly what PlayStation Studios is working on. Ghost of Yotei seems to be closing a quiet 2025 with an October release date. Other announced titles are Intergalactic and Wolverine, but these don't even have a release date. Amidst the shadows, Sony comes with another
price hike for the United States.
Sony PS5 Pro Will Cost About $750 in the United States
Sony has just announced through its
official PlayStation blog a $50 adjustment in the
PS5 price in the
US. The new price change applies from August 21, 2025, and will cover all the console versions available in the market. This will push the price of the
PS5 Pro to the impressive $749,99 mark (from $699,99). The base PS5 Slim with Disc Driver will cost $549,99 (from $499,99) and the Digital Model will cost $499,99 (from $449,99). That's an expressive price hike that puts the consoles, especially the Pro, in a price level that could make the players rethink their priorities.
For now, the
price of accessories remains unchanged. According to
Sony, for now, other markets will not be affected by this change. There are no plans, so far, for raising the price in other countries. According to SIE's Vice-President of Global Marketing, Isabelle Tomantis, the price hike is due to a "challenging economic environment". This could be due to the ongoing tariffs in the United States, as well as other economic tensions. For those unaware, the PS5 is manufactured in China, and the two countries have been going through rounds of negotiations since the beginning of Trump's tariff policies.
The PS5 has Already Sold 80 Million Units
As we've said in the beginning of the article, the PS5 keeps selling well despite all the controversies.
Sony's eighth-generation console has been around since 2020 and has already sold 80,3 million units since launch and has been profitable for the company. The company's ongoing policies with the launch of games are the target of criticism, but this does not prevent the console from performing well around the world.
