RedMagic has officially unveiled the 12 Pro+, a gaming phone that combines liquid cooling with RGB lighting. The company calls it the first phone in the world to pair these features. It runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, a chip that has appeared in only a handful of new devices so far.
With active cooling, RGB lighting, and dedicated gaming controls, the RedMagic 12 Pro+ looks more like a handheld gaming device than a typical smartphone.

RedMagic 12 Pro+ Prices Start at Around $980

The base model comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It costs 6,999 yuan in China, or roughly $980. The 16GB/512GB version costs 7,999 yuan, while the top model with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage costs 8,999 yuan, around $1,260.

A collector's edition with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage will arrive later, but RedMagic has not announced its price.
These figures are approximate currency conversions, not official US prices. The previous RedMagic 11 Pro+ started at 5,699 yuan in China, making the new model more than 1,000 yuan more expensive. RedMagic has yet to confirm the price or release date of the global RedMagic 12 Pro.

ICE 12 Cooling System Combines Liquid Cooling and a Fan

The ICE 12 cooling system uses a new micropump and liquid cooling alongside an active fan that reaches 25,500 RPM. It also includes a 4D Ice-Step vapor chamber, fourth-generation liquid metal, and a graphene-based thermal module.
According to Whylab, the updated design uses two circulation channels and offers a larger cooling area. The fan is reportedly rated IPX8, while the phone itself carries IP68 and IP69 ratings.

RGB lighting adds visual flair, but it does not prove that the cooling system works better. Independent tests under sustained loads will show how well it controls temperatures during long gaming sessions.
RedMagic also includes its own Red Core R5 gaming chip. It supports simultaneous resolution upscaling and frame generation at 2K resolution and 185Hz.

The 185Hz OLED Display Has an Under-Panel Camera

The phone features a 6.85-inch BOE X11 OLED display with a resolution of 2688 × 1216 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 185Hz. Touch sampling reaches 500Hz in normal use and up to 5,000Hz in instant mode.
Whylab reports a global brightness of 1,900 nits and a local peak of 5,000 nits. The screen's black border measures just 0.96mm. A 16MP selfie camera sits under the display, leaving the screen without a visible punch-hole or notch.

An 8,400mAh Battery Powers the Gaming Hardware

The rear camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilization and a 50MP ultrawide camera. There is no telephoto lens, which limits dedicated optical zoom capabilities.
The 8,400mAh battery supports 120W wired charging, 80W wireless charging, and bypass charging. The phone measures 8.55mm thick and weighs 223 grams.
Other features include a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB 3.2 Gen 2, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and an infrared blaster. The device also has dual 1115E speakers, three microphones, an X-axis linear motor, and shoulder triggers with a 700Hz sampling rate.
The RedMagic 12 Pro+ runs REDMAGIC OS 12 and comes in three transparent-style color options. Its China launch prices are confirmed, but global pricing and availability remain unknown.
