Instagram is
giving creators a new way to tie their short videos together. The app now lets users link one Reel to another, creating what’s essentially a series. The change is rolling out worldwide.
The update comes after
Instagram noticed more people posting content in parts — tutorials that span several clips, ongoing storylines, or just multi-part jokes. Until now, there was no easy way to connect them. Audiences had to dig through a profile to find “part one.” With the new feature, everything can sit in a sequence.
How Linking Works
When posting a Reel, creators will see a new option under the caption box called “Link a reel.” Tap it, choose one existing Reel, and give the connection a short title (15 characters max). If you skip the title, Instagram slaps on a default label: Linked reel. You can change or delete that later.
The tool works for older videos too. Open a Reel, hit the three-dot menu, and choose “Add linked reel” if nothing is connected yet. If there’s already a link, you’ll see “Edit linked reel.” You can swap in a different video or unlink it altogether. Once a clip is unlinked, it drops out of the series.
One limitation: subscriber-only
Reels and “close friends” Reels can’t be added. Everything else is fair game.
Why It Matters
For creators, this is mostly about making life easier for viewers. Instead of hunting for the next part of a cooking demo or comedy skit, people can just tap through. It also gives creators another way to keep audiences engaged — once someone starts a series, they’re more likely to keep watching.
For Instagram, the move is part of its broader effort to push Reels, which remains its answer to TikTok. Anything that keeps users inside the app longer is a win for Meta.
Rolling Out Now
The
feature is global, so anyone with an account should see it soon, if not already. It’s a small addition, but one that reflects how people are actually using the platform. And for creators who like to work in chapters, it’s a welcome fix.
