HP has made
available 3
Allwinner A31S powered tablets in
China, namely the
HP Compaq 7, Compaq 7+ and Compaq 8. The the devices form a trio of low-cost
Android powered tablets, with
screen sizes ranging from 7 to 8 inches.
The Compaq 7 comes with a 7-inch 1024 x 768 pixel TN
display, while the Compaq 7+ comes with one of the same size and resolution but promises better viewing angles thanks to the IPS panel used. Lastly, the Compaq 8 features an
iPad mini-style 7.85 inch
display which again packs a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, reminding us of the 1st-gen
iPad mini.
The trio feature the low cost
Allwinner A31S chipset, which houses a
quad-core Cortex A7 CPU along with the PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU and run on Android v4.2.
RAM varies from 1GB to
2GB, while internal
storage goes from 8GB to 16GB across the three tablets. Pricing is competitive, starting 999 Yuan ($160) making the trio affordable alternatives to other tablets like the
Google Nexus 7 and the Apple
iPad mini which are priced relatively higher. However, there's no word on an international release as yet, with availability restricted only to
China.
