BYD Launches Android Tablet

BYD autos plans to diversify itself again and launch Android powered tablets. The company are really making waves in the auto world with it's Toyota, Honda and Mercedes clones, and also does a roaring trade in the battery business. It's step back in to the consumer electric market doesn't come as a huge surprise as BYD was originally started as a mobile phone company, a market they might also re-enter with it's Windows XP based 'Mars'.

The 'Alice' tablet as it is known will possibly be branded as a Viewsonic device with BYD just doing the OEM, however we can certainly see the possibility of this making its way in to BYD's extensive range of cars in the futures as a removable GPS/media device.

The Alice will run either Android or Windows CE. It has an 8.9 inch 1024×600 display, 8 GB to 16 GB of flash storage. Graphics come in the form of a Nvida Tegra chip-set. Wi-Fi, Blue-tooth, o.3M pixels camera, and PCIE interface to handle 3D graphics make up the rest.
