Honeycomb: Open Source No More!

Google have announced that they will be holding back on the distribution of it’s flagship Android Honeycomb operating system.
This means 2 hugely important things to those looking at purchasing an Android Tablet:

1) Only larger manufactures will be allowed to use the Honeycomb OS under license, meaning cheaper tablets from smaller companies are likely to be delayed to late this or early next year.

2) Developers of application and games will no longer be allowed to obtain the Honeycomb SDK meaning there will be no new applications specifically designed for Honeycomb for the next few months!

Google gave the reason for the delay as being that they had not yet optimized Android 3.0 for phones yet and even admitted they don’t even know it Honeycomb will work on phones!
Not only will the delay be a huge blow to consumers who want more tablet options, but also for LG, Samsung, HTC and Motorola who all have Honeycomb tablets on the market but will now no longer enjoy 3rd party application support!

Android 2.3 and 2.4 will continue as open source, which makes us believe that we are likely to see a sudden surge in Android 2.0+ tablets making there way to the market!
