vivo has
officially introduced OriginOS 7 in India today - along
with their V80 model. From my first impressions, the Android 17-based update brings much more than a visual refresh. The company is also preparing a staged rollout for dozens of vivo phones, with the first devices expected to receive the update by the end of October.
OriginOS 7 focuses heavily on smoother animations, multitasking, AI tools, connectivity and battery management. vivo says its new Fluid Motion and Spring Animation systems improve how interface elements react to touch and gestures, while Seamless Interaction makes scrolling between different orientations feel more natural.
A big focus on AI
AI is one of the biggest parts of OriginOS 7. The Jovi assistant can search information, read multiple files, summarise content and perform some tasks across connected vivo devices and PCs.
There are also tools such as Snap Note, which can turn handwritten notes, whiteboards and slides into editable documents. AI Recorder can recognise speakers, create transcripts and generate summaries, while AI Search can find files and notes using descriptions instead of exact file names.
vivo is also adding Origin Workbench for improved multitasking, although some of its features require phones with 12GB of RAM or more.

The January 2027 wave adds the V40 series, S2 series, several T-series models and the Y51 Pro 5G. The final wave, at the end of February, includes the V30 series, V40e, Y400 series, Y31 Pro 5G and T4x 5G.
Interestingly, no iQOO phones appear on this list. That does not necessarily mean they are excluded, as vivo is expected to announce a separate iQOO rollout schedule.
A much bigger update than a new skin
In my view, OriginOS 7 looks like one of vivo's more substantial software updates in recent years. The combination of Android 17, deeper AI features, improved multitasking and cross-device functions should make the update feel noticeably different rather than simply giving older phones a new interface.
The only thing to watch is the long rollout. Owners of some popular vivo models will have to wait until early 2027, while the newest X-series phones get the update first.
