Vivo has officially confirmed its next
major software update,
OriginOS 7, which features a new "light and shadow" look. Even better, the beta has already started rolling out on select Chinese devices, so it's only a matter of time before it reaches Western devices too!
This announcement came from Vivo's OS product director, who broke the concept down into four key features, which I decided to nickname P.I.E. P stands for Perceptive, I stands for Intelligent and Interactive, and E stands for Emotionally Aware.
P.I.E.
So what does all of this actually mean? Well, by "Perceptive,"
Vivo means the interface will bend light using real optical rules, based on what's behind it.
By inteligent they mean that when Vivo's "Blue V" assistant is active, lighting effects shift to match what the user's trying to do, helping guide their attention and actions.
By interactive they mean that taps and swipes will trigger natural light-and-shadow responses, meant to make the whole experience feel more alive.
And by Emotionally aware they mean that Customizable light and shadow "moods" will let the interface reflect each user's personal style.
Will the beta go global?
That's still up to Vivo, and no international release has been scheduled yet, the beta began signing up testers in China back in July.
But looking at Vivo's past beta rollouts, the global release could land around two months after the Chinese beta kicks off. So don't lose hope, you might still get your hands on this light-and-shadow redesign even if you're in Europe!
First impressions from testers
OriginOS 7 is built on
Android 17, putting Vivo in step with the latest wave of Android skins that are in beta across the industry, including Samsung's One UI 9.
Early beta testers have compared the look to Apple's "Liquid Glass" style on iOS 26. So if you're not a fan of iOS but still want something that feels like an iPhone, this might be right up your alley!
