A short post on Weibo claims Xiaomi has started a new project. It's called a "3D vision frameless screen." The post says it could arrive next year on the
Xiaomi 18 series. Right now, this is a very early rumor. No other source has confirmed it yet.
What We Actually Know Is True
The
Xiaomi 18 series itself is real and already confirmed. It uses a new 2nm chip, the
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. It also features dual 200-megapixel Leica cameras.
Xiaomi has confirmed a global launch for the phone this year too, breaking a three-year streak where its Pro models stayed in China only. So the phone this rumor is attached to is very real, even if the screen claim itself is not yet proven.
What does "3D Vision" Mean
The phrase "3D vision" might points to naked-eye 3D
display technology. This kind of screen shows a 3D effect without needing special glasses. It usually works by sending slightly different images to each eye. Chinese display makers have been investing heavily in this space. One industry report predicts that naked-eye 3D screens could reach 40 million shipments in China by 2027, with a market worth around 12 billion US dollars.
Still, this technology has real challenges. Older naked-eye 3D displays often caused eye strain during long use. They also had a narrow viewing angle, meaning the 3D effect only worked if you held the phone at a specific position. Newer designs claim to fix some of these issues, but none have been proven to work well on a small phone screen yet.
Given all this, it's worth treating the original Weibo claim with real caution. It could describe a genuine experimental Xiaomi screen project. It could also be an early internal test that never reaches a final product. Many smartphone display experiments never make it to a public release at all.
For now, the only solid fact is this: Xiaomi has not confirmed anything about a 3D screen publicly. Everything else remains speculation based on one short social media post, paired with real, unrelated facts about the Xiaomi 18 itself.
