iOcean X7 Advanced with 2GB RAM to go on sale by the end of May?

iOcean were the first Chinese phone maker to launch a 5-inch, FHD phone running on the popular quad-core Mediatek MT6589, now rumours suggest the iOcean X7 Advanced could launch by the end of this month.

News from iOcean has been pretty quite since the Chinese phone maker launched the X7 Youth a few months ago. The iOcean X7 Youth shipped with a MT6589 CPU, 1GB RAM and 8 mega-pixel rear camera, but that’s not enough for some customers who have been patiently waiting for the Advanced version.

Gizchina News of the week

Rumours on Weibo now suggest that the Advanced version of the X7 could go on sale as early as the end of May. The X7 Advanced will come with the same Oppo Find 5 inspired body but with 2GB RAM and 13 mega-pixel rear sensor.

Although this is very much an unconfirmed rumour, the fact that the 2GB version is still being talked about will come as a relief to those of us who were beginning to think the whole idea had been forgotten about.

Sounds good to me. Buy this phone now and then in 12 months time, see whats new on the market.

Honestly, this hype which is created by the producers (AND amplified by this and several other china tech blogs) is ridiciolous. Anouncment after anouncement is made, but in fact no one had for example the final version of the Jiayu G4 or a UmiX2 in the hand.
This is not my blog, but in my opinion Andi as a editor should be more critical with these announcements and especially RUMOURS, instead of heating up the duscissions and hype these companies which make a fool of the customer.

Actually this is one reason, why I decided not to purchase a chinese phone anymore. I just received my RAZR i, which I was able to get it for only 100€. Great phone and it outperforms every chinese MTK phone easily in terms of specs and price.

Nevertheless, I wish everybody who is still waiting and hoping for his/her chinese phone to arrive good luck with waiting another 2 months 😛

JiaYu G4 is on my desk, and is on sale in JiaYu stores in China now (thanks to Joe for the tip). UMi X2 on my desk and is now called the International model aka 1.2Ghz MT6589 CPU (1.5Ghz will go international by next month according to one source)

Your hand-on video of the G4 for instance shows an engineering-model, not having announced features such as USB OTG, etc.
In another article its stated, that Jiayu will start full production of the G4 after getting “‘green’ light from the Ministry of Communication”, so how can they be able to sell it already, when the full production did not even start?
Correct me if I am wrong, maybe I missed sth.

        • May 20, 2013

I have no idea how they are selling it (legally) but it turns out they are, only found out about an hour ago myself. Got an email from a reader named Joe saying he visited the JiaYu shop in Zhengzhou and they had G4’s on sale at 1499 Yuan. Checked with JiaYu and they confirm that this is true. It’s like getting blood from a stone with them sometimes….

I am not blaming you for these misinformation, but these rumours can drive someone crazy. Do not take this as a critic to your blog. Thanks to your blog and your contributions I got to know the chinese mobile market much better.

However it is just annoying to follow these Chinese companies and their attitude towards their most valuable resource: their customers.
I was waiting since February for an official release of several phones (UMI,NEO,Jiayu), but not even one was launched yet, which finally lead me to cancel my preorders. Maybe its because I am used to the way well established companies deal with their customers here in Europe.

PartyNarty I guess you won’t be purchasing a tablet from China anytime soon either ?

Actually I ordered a tablet from a local company. I had to send already back 2 devices cause the camera was broken :/ now i was wondering if I could spend 50€less and buy a Chinese one with the same specs.
However the service is of course not comparable to re-sellers. I got a replacement device after only 2 days, and no costs for sending it back and the like…

  8. Not a comment on the actual article, but this is important.

You should fix your comments section, especially the reply part. The section width is fixed, and the nested replies eat up a lot of horizontal space.

This comment here is an example:

    https://www.gizchina.com/2013/05/20/iocean-x7-advanced-2gb-launch/#comment-340332

We’re almost seeing one word per line, which is annoying to say the least. The first 2 replies are passable, but after that it becomes ugly very fast.

If you start with only 600 pixels or so and eat up almost 100 on each reply…

Can we buy a jiayu G4 from any of these shops from abroad? Do they have websites?

I love Iocean X7’s design. If it has MT6589T, I will buy it!

  11. May 20, 2013

I got one of the youth version of X7 for RMB$999(US$167) and brought back to Vancouver, Canada. However, the phone doesn’t work on any of wireless providers such as Rogers, Fido, Telus, etc. though the 2G version of the phone does have 850 and 1900 Mhz bands. Maybe it needs a different ROM to make the phone worked here in North America. However, the phone is working fine in Asian and European regions.

Other than the phone is not working properly, I found the build quality is pretty, not excellent, good. I love the vivid screen equipped with resolution of 1920 x 1080. The 1G ram is not quite enough to handle if many apps were opened but the camera comes with 13M. That’s surprised since the spec suggested 8M pixels. The speed of mt6589 is fairly quick and responsive. I hope there will be a modified rom released so the phone will work in north America. Then I may buy this 2G ram version and hopefully the CPU is mt6589T.

          May 21, 2013

yes of course yet they keep hyping
as for the quality can we really maintain a chinese mid range for more than a year or so?
because these companies seem to roll to the next new device without giving much of a crap about the previous ones

Using google translate from another language I understand that many chinese users have a problem with the display because irritating their eyes by the screen glare.
Also I can say I had for few days an MT6589 smartphone called Hedy which have a very bad screen with bad angles, almost nothing to see in the middle of the day, and when in the night the powerful light of the display was disturbing my eyes too.

Andi, please, when you will review these smartphone pay more attention to the display because this is a thing we can’t see before we buy. We can see the specs, but not things like this.
So please include in your comments some words about displays like type, angles, day viewing…

I am very curious what display is using iOCean X7 because if it have some problem this type must be avoided. Low prices sometimes are hiding bad things. Anyone with more info please write here.

    Thanks!
