Honor 700 Pro Could Add a Rear Screen to Its Camera Setup

Honor may be about to join the rear-screen trend that Xiaomi started pushing with its recent Pro phones. A new leak points to the upcoming Honor 700 series getting a small 1.72-inch display on the back, with the Honor 700 Pro believed to be the model in question.

The same leak mentions a 6.57-inch flat display with 1.5K resolution and very thin, even bezels. A 200MP main camera is also part of the leaked setup.

Nothing has been confirmed by Honor yet, but the combination is interesting. The rear screen is the part that could make the Honor 700 Pro stand out.

The information comes from well-known leaker Digital Chat Station, who described a new Honor device under development. The name was not given, but the details point toward the Honor 700 series.

The small rear display is said to measure 1.72 inches. We still do not know exactly where Honor plans to put it.

That detail matters more than it may sound. Xiaomi places its rear screen inside the camera area, giving the phone a very different look. Honor could follow the same idea, or it could find a way to make the screen sit elsewhere on the back.

For me, the second option would be more interesting. There is no point copying Xiaomi's design line for line when Honor has a chance to make the idea its own.

The leak also mentions a 200MP main camera. This is not a completely new rumor for the Honor 700 series, as a high-resolution camera has already been linked to the upcoming phones. A 200MP sensor can be useful for more than just producing huge images. With the right sensor and image processing, it can also give the phone more room for digital crops and zoom.

The rear screen could make that camera even more useful. One obvious use would be a live preview when taking selfies with the main camera.

That is actually the feature I would care about most. A small rear display may look cool, but being able to use the much better main camera for selfies is a real advantage.

On the front, the Honor 700 Pro is said to use a 6.57-inch flat display with 1.5K resolution. The leak also points to very thin bezels on all four sides. That would give the phone a clean look without using a curved screen.

I think Honor is making the right choice here. Flat displays are easier to use, especially for typing and gaming, and they are also easier to protect with a screen protector.

There is still no information about the panel type, refresh rate or peak brightness. Those details will have to wait for another leak or an official announcement.

There is no doubt where the idea came from. Xiaomi made rear screens a major part of its recent Pro models, and other manufacturers are now looking at similar designs.

But I don't think the rear screen itself is enough to make the Honor 700 Pro interesting. The software will matter much more.

If Honor uses the display for notifications, camera previews, quick controls and small widgets, it could become a useful part of the phone. If it only shows the time and a few decorative images, most people will probably stop using it after the first few days.

That is the real question for Honor.

The Honor 700 series has not been officially announced yet, so there is still plenty of room for these specifications to change. The exact camera setup, chipset, battery and charging speeds remain unknown.

The series is currently expected to arrive later this year, with reports pointing toward a launch around November. For now, the rear screen is the feature that has caught my attention. A 1.72-inch display on the back is not something most people asked for, but it could become genuinely useful if Honor builds the right software around it.

And with a 200MP main camera next to it, the selfie preview alone could give the feature a good reason to exist.
