Another 6 inch Monster Phablet Coming Soon

Totempo-sun are another Chinese phone manufacturer who are hoping to take on the world with their monster 6 inch phablet, but judging by some of the spec’s I can’t see why you would want it!

There is the old saying, which many people seem to agree with, which is ‘bigger is better’ and I can see that it does make sense in certain situations such as mobile phone screens.

I much prefer the larger screen on the Zopo ZP900 Leader than the 3.5 inch screen on my iPhone as it gives me more space to work and the resolution is good, but having a monster screen with poor resolution seems like a waste to me.

Gizchina News of the week

Totempo’s new 6 inch phablet falls at the first hurdle for me as it’s resolution is only 480 x 800, which is a shame as most of the other components look good for the price.

Prices will start at 1399 Yuan this month for a limited time only and will increase to 1999 Yuan after the first batch is sold out, for that you get a dual-core MT6577 CPU clocked at 1.5ghz , 1GB RAM (512mb available too), an 8 mega-pixel rear camera and a large 3200 mah battery.

What do you guy’s think of these low res 6 inch phones?

JY-G3 is much better than this.

    Good morning,

I am concerned about the trend in 6 inch ‘phablet’ devices.

For my money, a ‘given’ must be that the screen resolution will need to be at least as good as the SGNOTE2 device.

I’m waiting to see if any of Chinese manufacturers or distributors can persuade at least a couple of UK channel players to put their 6 inch devices into the market.

But … I do not think that will happen until their screen resolutions improve; and their rear cameras settle at ‘at least 8MP’.

@Millgate these screens are terrible! I don’t see why they don’t make decent 5 inch phones with better resolution for the same money…

    Andy,

My position is that the screens are FINE – as far as they go at present – but they will not sell !

At this size, screen resolution is a strong success factor – and customers will reject them unless they are as good as the major competition.

The benchmark IS the Samsung Galaxy NOTE2.

Equal that (one of the 6 inch offerings already does) – it’s not necessary to beat it – and these 6 inch beauties will definitely sell, in my opinion.

The we might have a ‘trend’ !!

@millgate I agree that they will sell, but with resolution like this I won’t be getting one

The 6 inch class devices are interesting, i wouldn’t mind having one but not with this lousy low spec and quality screens that are offrered at the moment.
I hope for the next year and with the new platform MT658X, to see something worth considering- those new Soc’s can support High-res screens without much compromise on performance.
    Meanwhile, i’ll go with zopo(hero).

    Hi Andi,

Just to clarify this debate …

I believe that these ‘new breed’ Chinese ‘6 inch’ devices WILL NOT SELL unless they raise their screen resolution standards to match the Samsung Galaxy NOTE 2 specification.

Secondly … it will be necessary for them to be adopted by at least a couple of recognised ‘market makers’ here in the UK.

I think ‘6 inches’ is the dream size – and I always have done – and I really look forward to that size device ‘cracking’ the UK market.
