Neo won’t be upgrading Neo N003 to MT6589T

Remember that rumour about Neo will be updating the Neo N003 to the newer Mediatek MT6589T processor? Well apparently it isn’t true!

Our sources who are close to Neo have told us that Neo aren’t planning to update the quad-core Neo N003 to the 1.5Ghz MT6589T CPU and that the phone will ship as planned with the original 1.2Ghz non Turbo chip.

Gizchina News of the week

The news comes as quite a surprise as we hoped the reason for Neo’s late launch date of the N003 was due to the upgrade!

With a 1080p display, 13 mega-pixel camera, 3000mAh battery, MHL and OTG supper the Neo N003 will still be one of the best equipped phones available in China at such a low price, however how many customers are willing to wait now a processor update isn’t on the cards?

not as much as you think – im not a T-letter crazy, dont need that. most important to me is battery usage which will be lower on T models. my current phone is 4yo so performance will blast for me dont matter it its 1.2 or 1.5ghz

Talking about battery, wouldn’t 6589M be more powersave?

        • May 16, 2013

Yep, but that will likely have issues with the 1080 display as it has a slower GPU

Neo 2 was a really good phone! I would rather buy a good phone than a T phone… but i guess some people are getting into this marketing hype thing about chinese phones, step back one second and you will see what i mean.

Because all T phones are definitely not a good and we just can’t possibly have both.

omg who needs an extra 300 mhz by means of power consumption

    • May 16, 2013

Even the GPU is clocked higher. So obviously graphics performance will have some changes.!

…they say the GPU will be 30% faster in the T version of the chip

Interesting esp when UMI etc are doing the upgrade at the same cost..so It possibly is a supply issue..they must know others are doing the upgrade and it will affect their sales even though i suspect the extra grunt will make very little difference to actual perceived performance!

A smart marketing will release quickly the N003 and after 2-3 months the N003T, after they will sell all actual MT6589 chips they have in stock. In this way they will keep the people “hot” informed and make a nice transition to the next Mediatek processor.

The “problem” that they have now is for the batery.
