Hexa-core phones catch up as another MT6591 phone sees launch

MT6591 handsets are fast catching up with their octa-core counterparts, as another hexa-core phone goes on sale.

This time it comes from XOLO, one of the most popular manufacturers in India. The device – XOLO Play 6X 1000 – comes with the MediaTek MT6591 hexa-core processor, clocked at 1.5GHz. The good thing is that XOLO have included 2GB of RAM to make use of the hexa-core prowess, which should help improve the user experience.

The display is a standard 5-inch 1280 x 720p IPS unit, something we’ve seen on innumerable budget devices around the world. Keeping up with the trend of BSI enabled shooters, the Play 6X 1000 comes with an 8 mega-pixel rear BSI 2 enabled camera and 2 mega-pixel front. A standard 8GB ROM sits on board, with a microSD slot that can work with up to 32GB microSD cards.

Dual SIM, as expected, is a feature supported by this hexa-core device. A 2100mAh battery powers it all, managed by Android v4.4 KitKat which is a welcome addition to a phone like this one.

The device can be bought from the XOLO store for 14,499 INR ($240).
