Xiaomi Mi Router set for a Malaysia launch

Xiaomi has been actively expanding into new markets this year, and has had success in almost all of them. It has only launched its smartphones in many of the new markets, and it is about time that Xiaomi launches products like its Mi Router, Mi TV, etc.

The Mi Router is, as the name states, a router… with 802.11ac WiFi and an in-built hard disk with 1TB space. This means that not only can the Mi Router eliminate your elementary home router, but it can also double up as your NAS. What’s more, you can replace the HDD with one of your choice; given that it fits the 2.5 inch socket on the router. Inside, it has a dual-core processor and 256MB of RAM.

The device was spotted at the certification database for Malaysia, which means the plan for launch is on; we just don’t know when, yet.

Gizchina News of the week

Whenever it does, it should cost those in Malaysia a rough equivalent of 699 CNY (US$113, RM370), which is not bad from any angle.

The router lets you take control of it via an Android app, which means you don’t need to be at home to know (and control) what’s going on. It also comes with NFC which means you can pair your phone to the network with a simple tap, thereby eliminating the now-tedious-looking process of finding and then adding a network.
