MGCOOL Explorer Pro Video Teardown: Integrated Wi-Fi Module Exposed

MGCOOL just took the recently launched MGCOOL Explorer Pro with Sharkeye lens and 4K recording capability and teared it down. They did so also with another ordinary 4K action camera and then compared the two in a video. Let’s have a look!

As we can see in the video, after opening up the camera shell, what comes to your eyes first is how the MGCOOL Explorer Pro uses a thicker special camera lens which they call Sharkeye, the other camera in comparison utilizes an ordinary Fisheye lens. The Sharkeye lens is able to reduce any distortion the wide angle view creates and it will also improve color accuracy.

The next big difference is the “built-in” WiFi module, which is actually built-in on the Explorer Pro, meanwhile the random 4K camera simply has an antenna soldered to the logic board. In this case the MGCOOL Explorer Pro should provide a more stable and durable WiFi connection as there’s no risk of the antenna getting disconnected accidentally.

Other smaller details include, antioxidant interface and heat insulation film available on the Explorer Pro and absent on the other action cam. The MGCOOL camera also has a better designed PCB with components closer to each other to make them work more efficiently. Lastly, the Explorer Pro features larger and higher quality flash chips for improved durability.
