Xiaomi R1 – An Upcoming Budget-Friendly Full Screen Smartphone

Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, is known for unleashing cheap and durable smartphones. While most people believe that the cheapness of Xiaomi’s products is the key secret to its success so far, Xiaomi India Managing Director, Manu Jain has said that its exciting products and the incredible team played a huge role to its success. This company is expected to announce a budget-friendly full-screen smartphone before the end of the year. The likes of Oppo F5, R11s, and Vivo V7+ are currently getting all the attention in the market and Xiaomi is expected to unveil a product that will lock horns with these devices. The Redmi Y series does not exactly have the firepower and it is believed that the expected Xiaomi R1 with its full-screen design will do battle with the aforementioned smartphones.

Gizchina News of the week

Now, a virgin render of a mysterious  Xiaomi smartphone believed to be the Xiaomi R1 surfaced online and speculations have it that this device will come with a 1,499 Yuan (~$227) price tag. There are no rumors or speculations with regards to its specs, however, from the image this smartphone clearly uses a full-screen, USB-C interface and it may feature a rear fingerprint sensor. It also seems to have a dual front camera system. Please note that this report is unconfirmed thus the real deal could deviate largely from this one. Nevertheless, with the upcoming December 5 launch of Redmi Note, Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus and Xiaomi Mi 6C, it is only a matter of time before we see something new from Xiaomi

Yes we are expecting a competitive phone from Xiaomi with good cameras front and back which can compete with the likes of Opportunity F5, Vivo 7+ or Gionee R11 or Huawei 7x/Nova2i. Why Xiaomi is not allowed to sell Mediatek chip phones when Lenovo, Oppo, Vivo, Gionee, Panasonic, Sony even Samsung is doing it in India, I cannot understand. Intex, Micromax all are using the Mediatek chips. Why the ban is against Xiaomi?

Hi MaxPower, hope you are well. I am about to order the Mi Note 3 on Gearbest website using a discount coupon. In fact, they have two separate coupons for each color (black and blue). The blue one is sold at 267€ and the black one at 281€. My preference goes for the black one which is more classy but the price reduction is important on the blue one. The blue color is a bit too reflective for me. If you were me which color would you choose? Thanks in advance!

Personally I prefer black phones too.
If you’re committed to spend that much money the extra €14 should not make much difference. It’s 5% more. Or pretend you’re getting a case for it.
Also I’m assuming you’re keeping the phone for a while, so also for that reason you want to get a phone you’ll be fully happy with it.

Thank you for your message. I already made my decision I will get the Black Mi Note 3. The only problem I have with Gearbest is that they seem to be very slow when it comes shipping the goods of people. A friend of mine ordered a MI6 from GB website more than two weeks ago and he don’t have any information regarding the delivery date. It seems that most of time GB do not have the phones in stock when they do flash sales. They have a great deal on the 6/128GB variant at 280€ but the shipping date is between 5 – 7 December. And the shipment timeframe could evolve if they do not manage to get the phone in stock. I think that the only solution which is left to me is ordering the phone on Ibuygou and pay for DHL shipping with import duty insurance (~30€). At least, I will get the phone quickly in great condition (not damaged during the delivery or stolen by someone). Cheers MaxPower, take care! Peace.

I always use DHL,but I understand that in Europe you have very tight customs trying to get money even from small purchases.
Here in the US I never had any problem.
I usually pay $13-$15 with DHL and get the phone in 5 days (3 days from the seller and 2 days traveling).
I buy with confidence from AliExpress, there are good resellers over there.
Yesterday I received my new phone, I decided to treat myself and extended my limit from $300 to $500 and I went for the OP5T. Amazing phone, but I’m only getting 3G speed on AT&T despite the phone support the bands. I have to go to the store and change the IMEI from my previous Le Pro 3.

Hi MaxPower, hope you are well. You are definitely right, in Europe (especially in France) DHL services do their very best to get money from people who ordered goods from overseas. I mean that even if the seller declared a lower amount, they can open the parcel to check the item’s real value and ask you to pay import duty calculated on arbitrary estimation of the goods. A few weeks ago, I ordered two watches from a shop based in Singapour and I paid 85€ import duty taxes. That’s the reason why I am planning to pay the extra import duty insurance on Ibuygou to avoid paying around 75€ taxes. At the end with shipping costs and insurance, the final price isn’t really competitive when phones like LG G6 is sold around 350€ vs Mi Note 3 at 313€.

I wish I had the money to get the OP5T, it seems to be a wonderful phone. Moreover, it supports all the 4G LTE bands used in France. Mi Note 3 do not support the 4G LTE band 20 (800MHZ) but I will live without it. I suggest you to get a nice protective case for your phone and add a tempered glass. I know someone who bought the Mi Mix 2, he accidently dropped his phone from his pocket and unfortunately the screen shattered easily. I mean that it is you and your luck.
              Take care!

Maybe things will change now that Xiaomi started selling in Spain.
Prices are not competitive comparing to the Chinese prices but maybe they will lower soon.

I already bought a case and a 3D screen protector directly from them using a coupon. I usually drop the phone several times.

I don’t understand why Xiaomi didn’t add all the bands to the Note3 like they did with the Note2.
I was waiting for the Note 3 with excitement but when I saw no LTE I said pass.
I miss MIUI, I’m a big fan of Xiaomi but I have to tell you that this OnePlus is totally worth the money.
I was against with paying such amount on a phone, and that’s why I went Chinese long time ago, but this one had no compromises. If Xiaomi finally decides to put LTE to their MI serie, make it bigger than 5.2″ and improve their camera then I’ll be more than happy to go back.

To be honest with you, I don’t understand the logic behind Xiaomi marketing strategy. For example, they add 4G LTE frequencies for some devices like the Redmi Note 4 but at the same time they release high end phones with limited 4G LTE support (Russian Roulette strategy). I do understand that their phones are for the Chinese or Asian markets but I guess that they are aware that their phones are highly demanded in other countries because they offer great devices at competitive prices.

You are right, Xiaomi opened one or two shops in Spain but the prices asked are exaggerated. That being said, the chinese resellers remain competitive in terms of pricing.

OnePlus 5T is one of the best flagship phone out there. It has an excellent design and build quality. Moreover, it has an excellent camera according the reviews I have seen lately. I am deeply convinced that the OP5T is totally worth the money you paid for it. Lucky you!!!
