Honor is getting ready to launch the Magic 9 series, and the Magic 9 Pro Max
has now appeared on
Geekbench. The listing gives us an early look at the phone's processor, RAM and software ahead of its September 28 launch in China.
The device carries the model number WKL-AN20 and is listed with Qualcomm's SM8975 chip. This is believed to be the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, also known as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.
A 5GHz Snapdragon Chip
The Geekbench listing shows an eight-core CPU with a very unusual setup. Two prime cores can reach 5.01GHz, while three performance cores run at 4.03GHz and three efficiency cores reach 3.74GHz.
Graphics are handled by an Adreno 850 GPU. The phone also has 16GB of RAM and runs
Android 17, with Honor's MagicOS expected on top.
Those CPU speeds are the main reason this listing is interesting. A 5GHz smartphone processor would mark a major step up in peak clock speed for Qualcomm's flagship chips.
3,448 Single-Core and 9,353 Multi-Core
The Magic 9 Pro Max scored 3,448 points in the single-core test and 9,353 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench 6.
The single-core score is actually lower than the
Magic 8 Pro's previous result of 3,664 points. The multi-core score is more impressive, though, with the new phone showing a gain of almost 1,700 points over its predecessor.
I would not read too much into these numbers yet. This is still a pre-launch device, and final software tuning can change benchmark results. The retail version could perform better once Honor finishes its optimization.
Launch Is Set for September 28
The Magic 9 Pro Max is expected to be Honor's top model in the new
Magic 9 family. Earlier leaks have pointed to a large display, an 8,800mAh-class battery and a powerful camera setup with two 200MP sensors.
Honor is expected to reveal the full details at its China launch on September 28. For now, the Geekbench listing gives us a good first look at the performance hardware.
If the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro delivers as expected, the Magic 9 Pro Max could be one of the most powerful Android phones of the second half of 2026.
