Mid-range MediaTek Helio P22 based on 12nm FinFet process introduced

MediaTek has already found a winner in its latest offering this year, the MediaTek Helio P60. Now, the chipmaker is renewing its assault on the mid-range market with another chipset, the Helio P22. The Helio P22 is now official and is also under production. Expect to see it power smartphones in Q3, 2018.

Going by its features, the Helio P22 has can be another winner for the SoC manufacturer this year. For starters, it makes use of the TSMC 12nm FinFet process making it a unique mid-range offering. It can tick up to 2.0 GHz with its 64-bit octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 cores and its GPU is the latest MG PowerVR GE8320. It also supports 6GB of LLPDDR4 RAM and eMMC 5.1 storage. As for the visual side, it supports resolutions of up to HD+ and aspect ratios of up to 20:9.

On the camera side of things, the mid-range processor can help itself to 21MP modules for a single shooter. If it is dual, the combo can go up to a 13MP + 8MP setup. The camera support on the MediaTek looks promising and worthy of an upgrade as it will bring EIS, and Bokeh effects. Moreover, low-light shooting will be boosted with multi-frame noise reduction and clear-image zoom technology. Additionally, this is aided by automatic grain aliasing, distortion minimizing processes. It also has Auto Exposure that is backed by a hardware CCU unit. The instant Auto Exposure brings fast focus to adapt to different lighting conditions quickly.
