Xiaomi Mi 8

Xiaomi has just dropped its latest flagship devices – the 8th-anniversary Xiaomi Mi 8 and the special edition Mi 8 SE as expected. At the launch event, the company among other things highlighted the Dxomark of the newly unveiled device, and guess what? the performance is quite amazing.

Though stuffed with the same camera configuration as the recently unveiled Mi 2S, the flagship Mi 8 has already set a standard for camera performance as it has now dethroned the Mi 2S and of course other high-end smartphones that have passed through the Dxo test.

With a twin 12Mp cameras garnished with phase detection autofocus, 4-axis optical image stabilization (OIS) on the wide-angle module, and an LED flash, the guys at DxO gave the Mi 8 an overall score of 99 points, which places it in the same league as other best smartphone cameras that have received the DxO treatments. The Mi 2S for the sake of comparison rakes in a total score of 97, 101 in photography and 88 in videography

DxO further emphasized the stellar performance of the Mi 8 in its still photography category, returning an amazing score of 105 points in the photo category, which it attributed to a combination of exposures with an extended dynamic range in most lighting conditions, pleasingly rich and vivid color rendering with neutral white balance in bright light, and generally well-controlled artifacts. It also has fast and accurate autofocus and produces a pleasing bokeh with smooth blur transitions and a regular shape to highlights.

Finally, DxO awarded the Mi 8 a total score of 88 for video, the same score awarded the Mi 2S, it, however, commended the autofocus prowess of the device, which in its term is fast accurate and offers good tracking capabilities.
