Sony Xperia XZ4 exposed in CAD renders with triple-camera setup, and massive notchless display

Sony is currently hoping that the move into 5G technologies will, somehow, revive its slowly dying smartphone lineup. Until then, the company should keep its standard agenda of releasing smartphones that are always one step behind the competition, featuring displays that never met the word “bezel-less.” Having that in mind, it’s time to know what seems to be Sony’s next big thing for the mobile business – The Xperia XZ4.

The device in question appeared today in a couple of fresh CAD-based renders and a 360 degrees video teasing the smartphone appearance and some curious features. The smartphone will boast a 6.5-inch gigantic notchless display, and if you already know Sony smartphones, you know that the company isn’t very skilled when it comes to reducing the bezels of its displays. The Xperia XZ4 won’t be an exception, while the side edges are slightly thin, the top and bottom chin have an “ok” size… for a 2017 flagship.

Since this smartphone is probably coming in CES 2019, there is a great chance that other smartphones featuring in-display cameras, or even notches, steal all the attention. According to @OnLeaks the measurements of 166.9 x 72.4 x 8.2 will make the handset too chunky to compete with full-screen devices. While some people still prefer old-fashioned screen bezels, that are in common sense, easier to use, the large part of the audience is fascinated with the bezel-less trend. The Xperia XZ4 will be taller, albeit narrower, than Apple’s iPhone XS Max, that is a massive smartphone.

While the fingerprint scanner can’t be seen through these renders, it’s still to soon to believe that the Japanese firm will jump in the in-display fingerprint bandwagon. To be honest, there is a high chance that the company is going back to a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The scanner will double as Xperia XZ4’s Power button, just like on Xperia XZ1. While the Xperia XZ2 and XZ3 series have switched to a rear-mounted sensor, there is a reason that explains why Sony is moving back the scanner to its former position.

The Xperia XZ4 will be the company’s first smartphone to debut with not only two but three cameras in the rear. That is a massive upgrade over the Xperia XZ3 that packed just a single camera sensor. Apparently, the Xperia XZ4 will be the company’s late entry in the multiple camera segments. While the Xperia XZ2 Premium packed two cameras in the rear, the company opted to ditch it with the XZ3. Now seems that Sony has mastered the features of multiple cameras, and it will be finally coming in a standard version of an XZ flagship.

Last, but not least, the Xperia XZ4 will ditch the headphone jack, something that may sound sad for hardcore users, but unsurprisingly. We are curious to see which impact the Xperia XZ4 will bring to the market and it will be “shoot in the foot.” Especially when popular companies are set to debut smartphones with more than 10GB of RAM, Infinite or Foldable displays that looks much more appealing than our first impression of XZ4.

Seems like an almost hostile article against Sony. No Sony are not “behind the competition” – they just stick to what works.
