Yesterday, Qualcomm announced the new Snapdragon 855 SoC which supports 5G networks at the Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii. At the same time, the company announced a list of companies to use this chip which includes ASUS, Fujitsu, Google, HMD (Nokia), HTC, LG, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE and other little-known OEMs. At the summit, OnePlus CEO, Liu Zuohu, announced the company’s product layout for 2019 where it confirmed that OnePlus will certainly use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC next year.
Qualcomm also announced that OnePlus will cooperate with British EE to enter the UK market. According to the company, if all goes according to plan the “OnePlus 7” will be the first 5G smartphone to commercially arrive Europe next year. Well, Xiaomi plans to launch the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G version in Europe next year and this smartphone was launched today in China. OnePlus 6T was launched a couple of weeks ago and the preparedness of OnePlus 7 is not known for now. However, it is possible that the Mi MIX 3 will beat OnePlus to Europe.
Snapdragon 855 is Qualcomm’s latest top-of-the-range flagship mobile platform. It is based on the 7nm process and is equipped with the fourth-generation multi-core AI Engine. Compared with the previous Snapdragon 845, Snapdragon 855 AI performance has been improved by three times. In addition, the Snapdragon 855 has significantly improved its performance, artificial intelligence, photography, and network connectivity. With the Snapdragon X50 5G modem, the Snapdragon 855 mobile platform supports 5G network support.
