Sony lays off a quarter of its employees in Sweden as losses take toll

In the past few years, Sony’s performance in the mobile sector has been anything but great. This has now resulted in the company cutting budgets across some if its global facilities. In Lund (Sweden) where Sony Mobile’s operation exists, it is being reported and confirmed from a few sources that the company is going to cut a hefty amount of jobs from the organization.

It seems like Sony is willing to cut down 200 jobs in Lund where it employs an 800 strong full-time workforce. Although Sony has informed that there are 1200 people working in this area but it also includes consultants. On top of that, most number of people includes employees who work for a different department in Sony, which does not belong in the mobile sector. Unfortunately, Sony is targeting to cut down the overall cost into half gradually in the few upcoming years.

Deputy Chairman of Sony’s Lund operations- Stefan Olsson said “It is evident that Lund is going to get affected by cost savings but it is very uncertain how the whole process is going to be affected”.

Lastly, he concluded by saying “at the moment 200 services will be taken down but hopes to be fewer than that. Whatever the case, the concerned individual will be notified by March 2019.”
