The Galaxy S10’s in-display fingerprint scanner won’t work with screen protectors

The fingerprint sensor integrated under the display of the Samsung Galaxy S10 / S10+, according to the latest rumors emerged, should not work properly with the presence of screen protectors.

Samsung Galaxy S10, along with its Lite and Plus variants, is undoubtedly the most talked about smartphone of the moment and as we approach the 20 February, the date of Samsung Galaxy UNPACKED 2019 event, the rumors are multiplying. Just a few hours ago we saw the new flagships of the South Korean giant in new images and now we return to speak about its fingerprint sensor integrated under the display.

After using traditional fingerprint scanners for the last five years, Samsung is finally ready to turn the page on its flagship smartphones: Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ (but not the Lite version) should in fact boast ultrasonic fingerprint sensors integrated into the display. While this change was highly anticipated, on the other hand, according to some manufacturers of accessories, it may not be without side effects.

Gizchina News of the week

In order to ensure early availability, Armadillotek has been hard at work preparing its Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ cases. But through its own testing, which has involved “real” Galaxy S10 phones, the case maker has determined that the new in-display fingerprint scanner doesn’t work well with screen protectors.

Because of this development, the company’s trademark Vanguard case won’t include a built-in screen protector as has been the case in the past.

This news could be a small disappointment for potential buyers of Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+. No problem, however, for the cheaper model “Galaxy S10 Lite”, which should have the fingerprint sensor integrated in the side power button and therefore no risk of incompatibility with screen protectors.

I don’t know what is the big deal with screen protectors, I have used my Galaxy S7 Edge for 2 years without screen protector, only a quality case. Must have dropped it over 100 times from 1 to 6 ft of height, not a scratch on the screen. I used my original Galaxy S and S3 before that for years without any screen protectors only with cases, never faced a problem of cracked screens or even scratched screens. Screen protectors are overrated as long as you have a quality case to protect your phone.

You probably have case, that protects front side from drops. It will probably prevent screen-to-floor contact.

Screen protectors ARE USEFUL, especially if you drop phone on non-flat surface. I’ve dropped Galaxy S6 once on the floor without case, and both front and back sides have cracked. I’ve seen Galaxy S8, cracked from only one drop. I’ve seen Galaxy S3, with a lot of scratches on the screen.

I fully disgree with you. Indeed well designed case will protect screen while phone dropped on flat surface but this will completely fail if you drop phone on small rocks ( which happened to me ). It was Galaxy S3. Screen was protected with Nillkin glass protector which took the hit, broke apart but screen itself remained intact
