Xiaomi cuts off updates for a number of the Redmi family

China-based smartphone maker Xiaomi earlier this year made a far-reaching decision to establish its hitherto Redmi series as an independent brand. By that announcement, the Redmi ceased to be a series of smartphone under Xiaomi to become a sub-brand primarily to focus on value-for-money budget smartphones, while the Mi brand will be focused on high-end devices. The has since swung into action with a couple of smartphones already to its credit.

Maybe as part of the Xiaomi and the new Redmi brand strategy, Xiaomi earlier last month decided to drop MIUI support for Mi Max and Mi Max Prime and appears now to have extended same to a number of Redmi smartphones.

Fonearena citing Mi Community admin, reports that the Redmi brand has decided to drop MIUI Beta ROM development with immediate effects for various devices including Redmi 3S, Redmi 4 series, Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4A. With this decision, the underlisted Redmi smartphones henceforth will not receive MIUI Global Beta ROM updates. The decision as pointed out by the admin only infers that the affected devices will not receive MIUI Global Beta updates including the MIUI 11, so they will keep displaying ads in the user interface since Xiaomi will remove the feature with MIUI 11.
