Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A will not receive the update to Android 9 Pie

Xiaomi Redmi 6A

Last month we set our sights on the Android 9 Pie roadmap and the Xiaomi Redmi 6 and its younger brother Redmi 6A were also on the list. Although the update was scheduled for Q2 2019, the company has a decidedly abrupt (and unwelcome) change for the owners of the two models.

The roadmap, in fact, has been updated in a rather silent way and now shows the wording “Change of Plan, Suspension of Recruitment”. A clear signal indicating that the update to Android 9 Pie for the two models in question has been canceled.

Gizchina News of the week

Xiaomi Redmi 6A

Both the Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A debuted last June, both with Android Oreo in the form of MIUI 10, the proprietary interface of the Chinese company. Obviously, the fact that they will not receive Pie does not mean that software updates will be suspended. The company’s support will continue as expected; likely that they will also be able to boast the update to MIUI 11, as anticipated by a leaked list.
