A couple of weeks ago, the general manager of Redmi brand confirmed that the Redmi K30 will be Redmi’s first 5G smartphone. A few days ago, he revealed that this smartphone is coming. According to his Weibo post, “5G has arrived. Don’t worry, Redmi K30 is already on the road”. This implies that this smartphone will probably arrive in the coming months.

His post came on the same day, Qualcomm announced the launch of the Snapdragon 700 Series 5G mobile platform. According to Qualcomm, Redmi is one of the brands to use this chip. Redmi announced that it will be the world’s first brand to use the Snapdragon 700 series 5G chip. Nevertheless, another Chinese manufacturer, Oppo, laid a similar claim. According to Qualcomm’s schedule, the Snapdragon 700 series 5G chip will be commercially available later this year. However, smartphones with this chip will enter the market next year.

Since the Redmi K30 will probably use the Snapdragon 7xx 5G chip, then the smartphone should arrive next year. Unfortunately, Redmi did not disclose the specific model to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series 5G mobile platform, it may be the K30.

There is currently very little information about the K30. Redmi has a variety of 5G options for the K30. In addition to the possibility of Snapdragon 7 series 5G platform, it is also possible to try out the Snapdragon 800 series 5G platform.

Redmi K30 Price

Of course, the price/performance ratio will remain one of the highlights of the K30. Lu Weibing has repeatedly emphasized that Redmi focuses on cost performance. He considers Redmi as “the king of cost”. Although Lu Weibing did not directly give a price for this device, it will probably cost more than 2000 yuan ($281).

A fan asked if the Redmi K30 will break the 2000 yuan  ($281) price tag. Lu Weibing responded, “5G SoC is still very expensive”. This implies that the cost of the SoC will push the price above 2000 yuan ($281). Recent reports suggest that the Mi 9 5G will be the cheapest 5G mobile phone in the market. As of now, iQOO Pro 5G is the cheapest 5G smartphone and it sells for 3798 yuan ($536).
