Last week were unveiled the OnePlus 7T Pro and its McLaren Edition. But the company has not unveiled a successor to the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. An absence that is now explained by Pete Lau.
According to The Verge, this absence is justified by the fact that the Chinese company did not see an opportunity for a second smartphone with 5G. In the words of Pete Lau ” It’s not related to a Pro series or T-series or another device that certainly must have 5G,” the CEO said. “It’s more looking at what are the circumstances and what’s a suitable opportunity to build a 5G device.”
These statements may imply that OnePlus does not currently see any real utility in launching new smartphone compatible with 5G networks. Perhaps because these networks are still in the early phases.
Oneplus always wanted to be the first to launch a 5G smartphones. This has always been one of the promises of the Chinese company, and it has been fulfilled. With the launch of OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, the company has become one of the first to launch a 5G compatible smartphone. Looking at the present, the company sees no need to launch another product of its kind right away.

OnePlus 8 could arrive with 5G
If 5G doesn’t seem like a tempting bet on the present, maybe things will be different in six months. Pete Lau himself has already mentioned the possibility of all OnePlus 8 arriving by 2020 with support for 5G networks.
Maybe the circumstances are different then, in OnePlus’s opinion. After all, that was the justification given by its CEO for not having a OnePlus 7T Pro 5G.
The downside of this possibility is the price increase of OnePlus 8. The implementation of 5G will incur more production costs and this will inevitably impact the sales price of the smartphone.
