OnePlus announced a handful of new OxygenOS features special to the OnePlus 8 series yesterday at the online launch event of its new smartphones. These features are aimed at an making it more refined, smooth, and customizable.

Some of these features that caught our eye include a New Dark Theme, Live Wallpaper, and Live Caption. Here’s everything in detail.

New Dark Theme

Dark Mode is such a vital feature for phones these days. However, its usefulness is hampered due to its limited availability. The New Dark Theme feature is compatible with a “wide range of third-party apps”, the company states on its website. This should make it a very handy addition. Although OnePlus doesn’t specifically state how many new apps are now supported, we expect more details to emerge soon.

OxygenOS Live Wallpaper

Live Wallpapers are exactly that. They’re animated, but in this case, they specifically change hues according to real-time weather conditions instead of random colour changes. Needless to say, this will take up more battery.

Smooth Life 2.0

These are a bunch of optimizations (around 280+) all of them aimed at improving the overall smoothness and fluidity of the OxygenOS UI.

Live Caption from Google Pixel series

OnePlus has worked with Google to bring Live Caption feature that provides video and audio captions in real-time. This has been rolled out to OnePlus 7T Pro and OnePlus 7T in a beta so it’s not surprising to see it on the OnePlus 8 series but definitely a good feature to have.
