Asus ROG Phone 3 hits GeekBench and Wi-Fi Alliance

The gaming smartphone range has reached one of its most important years since it is finally reaching the masses. Moreover, games are becoming increasingly detailed and competitive. Moreover, they’re also helping to boost new technologies forward like the new trend for high-refresh-rate displays. It’s natural to see new companies joining this trend. And also, it’s even more natural to see old players launching their 2020 gaming smartphones. In this group we have Asus, which is starting to prepare the arrival of its Asus ROG Phone 3.

The ROG Phone lineup undoubtedly is made of some of the most advanced gaming smartphones in the industry. The latest entry in the series was the last year’s ROG Phone 2. Now, the first pieces of evidence regarding the arrival of the ROG Phone 3 started to appear. First of all, the new gaming device passed Wi-Fi Alliance’s certification process which is our best hint that the device is already coming. The second leak shows up the alleged device on the GeekBench platform.

Gizchina News of the week

The new gaming phone will ship with Snapdragon 865

The handset bears the I0003DD model number, it’s the same name on both GeekBench listing and Wi-Fi certification document. As per the Geekbench listing the handset score 902 points in the single-core tests and 3,074 points in the multi-core test. Worth noting that the above results were achieved through GeekBench 5.1.1 version. To no one’s surprise, the handset sports the Snapdragon 865 SoC and the variant tested has 8GB of RAM. Of course, this should be just a specific variant of the handset. After all, we’re also expecting one with 12GB of RAM. Although this hasn’t been confirmed, the RAM should be based on the LPDDR5 standard just like other gaming phones.

Unfortunately, details are still scarce regarding the new smartphone. Wi-Fi Alliance just serves to confirm the model number and dual-band Wi-Fi support which is something quite obvious in 2020 phones. Interestingly enough, the last year’s ROG Phone 2 came with I001D codename which is very similar to the newer device. We believe that more details will appear in the coming days.

The Asus ROG Phone 3 will probably be one of the most interesting gaming phones for 2020 with a fancy unique design that is very traditional in the series. So let’s stay tuned to see if Asus will come soon with more details about it.
