TSMC has started producing Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 flagship chipsets

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), according to some Taiwan media, has started the production of Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 processors. It will become the heart of the flagship smartphones in 2021.

TSMC has started producing Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 flagship chipsets

Snapdragon 875 provides 5-nanometer manufacturing technology. Compared to the current 7nm Snapdragon 865 chips, the new processor will be able to demonstrate improved performance while lowering power consumption.

According to the available data, the Snapdragon 875 processor will receive eight cores in the configuration 1 + 3 + 4. In particular, there will be one super-core Cortex-X1, providing a 30 percent increase in peak performance compared to the current Cortex-A77.

The SoC has a Snapdragon X60 5G modem with a data transfer rate of up to 7.5 Gb/s. Finally, the chip will include the high-performance Adreno 660 graphic processing unit.

It is reported that Qualcomm will begin to receive Snapdragon 875 processors from TSMC by the end of the third quarter – in September. The official presentation of the new chip will be held at the end of this year. The first smartphones based on the Snapdragon 875 SoC platform will appear on the market in the first quarter of next year.

Snapdragon 690 debuts as the cheapest Qualcomm 5G SoC

It is worth to mention that recently, Qualcomm has finally settled all the rumors as it unveiled the first Snapdragon 6 series processor with 5G connectivity. Some of the major highlights of the new SoC includes an all-new X51 5G modem, support up to 120Hz refresh rate screen, 4K HDR video capture and more.

The new Snapdragon 690 SoC is the first 6 series SoC to support display screens having refresh rates up to 120Hz. It also supports HDR10, HDR10+ with 10-bit color displays and Rec2020 Color gamut. Other features include Qualcomm’s Aqstic audio codec and Quick Charge 4.0+ which debuted on the Nubia Z17.

At the base, the new Snapdragon 690 SoC is manufactured using Samsung’s 8nm LLP process. This means it has slightly lesser

It has two Kryo 560 cores based on the ARM’s newer A-77 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. We expect it to give a 20% boost in performance compared to older Snapdragon 675. But still, the SoC will be slightly underpowered as the 730 and 730G are clocked at higher 2.3GHz.

The remaining six cores of the eight-core CPU are based on A-55 clocked at 1.7GHz. As for memory support, it supports LPDDR4x with a maximum size of 8GB RAM.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 690 SoC is the first 6 series of processors to support 5G connectivity. The company has made this possible by using a newer X51 5G Modem. This modem will give download speeds of up to 2.5Gbps and 660Mbps. This could make it fall just below the X52 and X55 modems found on the Snapdragon 765 and 855 SoCs.
