Huawei Sound is official – a portable smart speaker selling for €199

At the Huawei Mate 40 series conference, Huawei released a plethora of products including a low version of Huawei Sound X. Huawei Sound as the company introduced it retains the Devialet’s acoustic design. However, it is smaller and more portable. Huawei collaborated with DEVIALET on this device. DEVIALET is a French company that focuses on speakers and amplifiers with Hi-Fi audio. This device comes with a dimension of 147mm (D) x 186.7 mm (H) and weighs 2.2kg. Recall that the Huawei Sound X weighs 3.5kg. According to Huawei, this speaker is smaller and more powerful.

Huawei Sound

The Huawei Sound uses 512MB RAM and 8GB ROM. This speaker comes with a 4-inch 40W woofer and 3x full-range 5W speakers. According to Huawei, this device uses SAM 2.0 technology from Devialet. Furthermore, it also comes with a 1-woofer + 2-passive unit structure. Huawei says this structure delivers 55Hz-40kHz deep bass. Also, it has overheating protection, <2% THD, and more.

This device supports “Devialet’s SPACETM  immersive Technology. This is actually a Hi-Res audio with three full-range speakers with even spacing. With this design, users can feel a 360° surround-sound. In addition to the SPACETM 360-degree Soundstage support, this device also supports Vocals, Hi-Fi, and Bass audio.

Huawei Sound

In terms of audio codecs, it supports Bluetooth LDAC codecs with transfer speeds up to 990kbps. According to the company, it is 3x faster than other BT speakers. On the connectivity end, this Bluetooth speaker has a couple of options. It has the likes of Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, UPnP(BubbleUPnP, VLC, Hi-Fi cast), NFC, 3.5mm aux-in, connection guide lights, and multi-function keys at the top.

Of course, all these will not be entirely cheap however, it is still cheaper than the Huawei Mate X. The Huawei Sound will be available for €199. This is about €70 cheaper than Huawei Sound X which sells for €269.99. 

Other Huawei devices at the Mate 40 conference

Excluding the Huawei Mate 40 series, Huawei also released several other products at this conference. We will take a look at some of them

  • Huawei X Gentle Monster Eyewear II: This eyewear is a fashionable product that comes in handy.  If you need to insert special lenses, you can do that with this eyewear. There are also multiple versions for you to choose from. Of course, all the versions come with partly open speakers on the side.
  • Huawei Watch GT 2 Porsche Design: This flagship smartwatch comes with wear-resistant sapphire glass and a very light titanium frame. On the rear, it uses a skin-friendly ceramic material. If you need to own this device, you will have to part with €700
  • Huawei FreeBuds Studio: This earbud comes with about eight microphones. With four mics on a side, it boasts of at least 40 dB noise reduction. Besides the mics, the Tee Audio Tube structure helps filter out medium and high-frequency noise. The Huawei FreeBuds Studio cost €300.
