OnePlus 8/Pro system update is completely erasing users data

OnePlus has two Android skins which it uses for its smartphones. In China, the Android skin is Hydrogen OS. However, globally (outside China), it uses Oxygen OS. Presently, there is an issue with Oxygen OS. The latest Oxygen OS update for OnePlus 8/Pro models is completely erasing users’ data. About two weeks ago, OnePlus launched the OxygenOS 11 beta 3 for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro users.

According to feedback from users on the OnePlus forum, they received a stable OTA upgrade through the system update of OxygenOS 11 Beta 3. After upgrading, boom!!! all their data is gone. This has been on for some time but OnePlus just officially confirmed the situation. In a new post on its forum, OnePlus confirmed that the problem did exist and explained it.

It seems like some users are reporting receiving the stable over the public beta 3, leading to a full data wipe. This information was already shared with the software team so it can be checked and addressed. Mainwhile, if you receive an update OTA, please double-confirm if its an Open Beta update. If it isnt, please DO NOT install it

OnePlus’ update method for Hydrogen OS and Oxygen OS is generally close testing, open testing, or stable version. Judging from the current situation, some public beta users seem to have accidentally received an update push from the stable version channel, and this update will erase all user data.

Gizchina News of the week

OnePlus is warning that whatever OTA update you receive, check if it is a public beta. If it is not, do not install the update otherwise all your data will be gone. Furthermore, the company is recommending a full backup before attempting any update.
