OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei launches his new company tomorrow

OnePlus

OnePlus made remarkable steps last year such as its expansion to the market of mid-range smartphones. The brand introduced a premium mid-range phone dubbed OnePlus Nord, an affordable variant dubbed Nord N10, and an entry-level device with LTE dubbed OnePlus Nord N100. Despite the new milestones, the company lost an important face – Carl Pei. For those aware of the OnePlus story, Pei was the co-founder of the company and worked alongside Pete Lau since the first OnePlus phone that came with the controversial invite system. After many years working to expand the brand, Pei left in October to move on to a new venture. Tomorrow, the former OnePlus executive will launch a new company and we will finally know what he has in tow for the future. The new company is headquartered in London and the announcement will start at 11 am UK time.

Apparently, the company is working on consumer electronics. This is a market where Carl Pei has a lot of experience. However, it will not be directly related to smartphones. The focus will be on music gadgets such as headphones, speakers, and more. Of course, the whole details are still kept under wraps. So we have to wait until tomorrow to know all the secrets this new company has in tow. For now, we don’t even know what the new company will be called.

Interestingly, the company already received over $7 million in seed funding from some high profile investors such as Ton Fadell, the inventor of the iPod. We don’t really know the real purpose behind’s Pei decision of leaving OnePlus. After all, the company already has a presence in the music segment with TWS headphones. The executive was even among the team that created the OnePlus Bullets. According to an interview with Wired, Pei stated that “by turning a blank page, I can be a lot more creative with what I choose to spend my time on”. Perhaps he wants to bring new products without having to follow an established legacy.

OnePlus will keep its expansion with new competitive smartphones in 2021

As far OnePlus is concerned, the brand will keep the journey it started last year. The brand now is more a mainstream smartphone brand than a company that makes just premium flagships. Until the end of Q1 2021, the brand is set to introduce three new smartphones. The usual OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro duo sporting Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC and a third variant that is likely coming with Snapdragon 870.
