Last year, the mobile platform market revived slightly – Google released its own Tensor chip, and MediaTek prepared a flagship for 2022 that can compete in performance with the best Qualcomm solutions. Finally, Samsung has now announced the development of a mobile platform unique to Galaxy smartphones.

As the head of the mobile division of Samsung, Tae Moon Roh, recently stated, the company is working on a new chipset for smartphones that will be used only in Samsung Galaxy models, according to the South Korean publication iNews24. According to the publication, Tae Moon Roh announced the development of a special chipset in response to a question from one of the employees who wanted to know how the company intends to deal with the problem of slowing down gadgets by the Game Optimization Service (GOS) – Samsung had previously apologized for such measures taken. in the Galaxy S22 to save power and avoid overheating. In response, the top manager said that Samsung is creating its own mobile platform, which will solve this problem.

Samsung has been releasing mobile chips under the Exynos brand for a long time; they are available to almost any manufacturer of Android smartphones; but are not in use as often as competing solutions from MediaTek and Qualcomm. However, the chipsets have never been exclusive to Galaxy smartphones and are produced by Samsung Electronics LSI; an independent entity from Samsung Mobile.

Although Samsung has previously used MediaTek mobile chipsets mainly in the budget lines of its A-series smartphones; according to the latest data, it expects to equip more expensive smartphones with Taiwanese solutions.

According to Business Korea, MediaTek chipsets will be available on half of the Galaxy S22 Fan Edition (FE) and possibly even the new Galaxy S23 flagships in a batch destined for sales in Asia. Previously, Samsung used only Qualcomm and Exynos mobile platforms in its premium lines; while MediaTek variants were occasionally in use in budget and mid-range smartphones to reduce costs.

The share of MediaTek mobile chipsets continued to rise in 2021. The company reportedly dominated the Android smartphone market last year.

MediaTek has achieved the main successes in the market of models of the average and budget levels priced up to $400. So, in 2021, their share of chips for such smartphones accounted for 95% of deliveries. Nevertheless, smartphones with the new flagship Dimensity 9000 chipset have already entered the top ten according to AnTuTu; so further expansion in the premium device market is quite likely.
