Huawei is not dead. Moreover, today, following the schedule, the China-based first-tier tech company took wraps off the new folding screen smartphone, namely the Huawei Mate Xs 2. This is the company’s fifth foldable phone and the first folding screen mobile phone this year. Our protagonist comes with tons of improvements. Apart from them, we should also point out that this is the lightest foldable smartphone on the globe.

What Pain Points Does Huawei Mate Xs 2 Solve?
Currently, there are many folding screen smartphones on the market. But almost all of them have a common problem of creases. Plus, they are thick and are not protected from drops. In this sense, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 uses Huawei’s latest folding screen technology. The latter comes with a new generation of dual-rotating eagle-wing hinges. As a result, the screen is smoother after unfolding and there are almost no creases. It is the first to use a composite reinforced structure screen, which is similar to the “bullet armor” effect.
Besides having such a design, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 also uses a lot of innovative materials and microfiber technology. In effect, the weight of the whole machine is 255 grams. Thus, it is almost the same as the weight of ordinary mobile phones. The composite laminated screen improves the strength of the fuselage and has better bending resistance (1.4 times), impact resistance (2.8 times), and better drop resistance (2.5 times).
Appearance and Screen
There are three color variants you can choose from: elegant black, brocade white, and frost purple.
Well, we guess you are more curious about its screen. When unfolded, the screen size reaches 7.8 inches, turning it into a tablet. Even in this mode, the display resolution is as high as 2480×2200 pixels. The rest of the screen parameters include a golden ratio of 8:7.1, a 120Hz smart high refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate support, a 1440Hz high-frequency PWM modulation, etc. The phone even uses an anti-reflective nano-optical coating. The latter allows the phone to display content clearly even under direct sunlight.
Such a form factor allows the manufacturers to use only one camera system instead of two. The Huawei Mate Xs 2 comes with a triple-camera, which can capture high-res photos and selfies. The module includes a 50-megapixel primary lens, 13-megapixel ultra-wide, and 8-megapixel telephoto lenses. The camera support 3x optical zoom as well as laser focus.
Of course, Huawei has tuned it and uses various self-developed software and hardware, such as Huawei XD Optics and XD Fusion Pro primary color engine. Due to this, the phone takes clearer photos, the colors look more natural, and in other words, you get what you see.
Huawei Mate Xs 2 Hardware and Performance
To start with, the phone comes with a large 4880mAh battery, which supports 66W super-fast charging. So, the battery can reach 90% of power in 30 minutes.
Plus, under the hood, this performance-beast uses a graphene liquid cooling system with high thermal conductivity. The latter greatly improves the heat dissipation capacity.
Moreover, our protagonist uses new technology in terms of connectivity. We mean the Huawei Mate Xs 2 supports tri-band Wi-Fi. By the way, this is the world’s first smartphone to come with such a technology. In effect, the Wi-Fi speed can reach 4Gbps, which is much faster than others. The phone can use several networks parallelly to improve network speed and connection quality.
Heh, no one is talking about its processor because … it is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G.
The handset runs HarmonyOS 2.
Price and Availability
The phone is available in a few storage versions. For instance, the 8+256GB variants costs 9,999 yuan ($1,509); the 8+512GB version is 11,499 yuan ($1,735); the 12+512GB collector’s edition is priced at 12,999 yuan ($1,962). It starts pre-sale today and will officially go on sale on May 6.
