You can now check the air quality in your area using Google Maps

Google Maps can help you with a lot more than just getting around. It can also assist you in avoiding tolls, locating cheaper petrol, navigating within buildings and airports, and even locating nearby electric scooters. It can now also tell you how clean the air is around you.

A new air quality layer has been added to Google Maps to assist users keep track of the air quality index (AQI) and make educated decisions about their outdoor plans. Last year, the feature was previewed; and it is now widely available in numerous areas, including the United States and India.

In Google Maps, hit the layers icon and choose the air quality layer to check the AQI. When you switch to the air quality view, Google Maps zooms out to display an overview of air quality across a larger region. To get more localized results, you must zoom in.

The air quality score and matching color-coded dot for nearby air quality monitoring stations appear as little bubbles. When you click on a bubble, you’ll get further information including outdoor activity suggestions and when the information got the last update.

Google Maps now allows you to check the air quality

Google Maps incorporates data from government monitoring stations as well as non-regulatory partners to calculate air quality. When the data comes from other monitoring stations, Google takes their raw sensor measurements and calculates a weighted average using the NowCast algorithm, but when the data comes from other monitoring stations, Google takes their raw sensor measurements and calculates a weighted average using the NowCast algorithm.
