A few weeks ago, Xiaomi officially released its second-generation foldable smartphone, Xiaomi MIX Fold 2. Less than a month after the launch, there are now reports regarding another flagship smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer. According to popular Weibo tech blogger, @DCS, the Xiaomi 13 iterative standard version will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Furthermore, he also reveals that this device will use a 2.5D flexible screen and the display size is about 6.36 inches. In addition, this display supports a high refresh rate of 120Hz and uses a single center punch-hole design with ultra-narrow bezels.

This model is likely the standard version of the Xiaomi 13 series. In July this year, the @DCS said that the Xiaomi 13 series will use a 2K resolution 120Hz refresh rate curved screen. He also claims that the engineering model has a ceramic version manufactured by BYD. In terms of battery life, the Xiaomi 13 series engineering model adopts a multi-pole single-cell solution. Furthermore, the battery supports 100W fast charging by a self-developed fast charging IC. The series will also support the maximum 50W wireless fast charging.

Xiaomi 13 may launch late this year

The first batch of smartphones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will launch in late November (tentative date). We can be certain that the Xiaomi 13 will be among the first batch of devices to use this chip.

According to @iceuniverse, the Xiaomi 13 series will use the Samsung Galaxy S22’s four-frame equal-width technology. The previous digital flagship, Xiaomi 12S was released in July. This device uses a 2400 × 1080 resolution and supports a 120Hz high refresh rate OLED screen. This device comes with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC as well as a built-in 4500 mAh battery. It supports 67W wired fast charging, 50W wireless fast charging, and 10W wireless reverse charging. In the camera department, the Xiaomi 12S comes with a 50-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 5-megapixel telephoto macro lens.

Only the Xiaomi 13 / Pro series uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 – the new Redmi K series will use the Snapdragon / Dimensity dual flagship chip

In addition to the Xiaomi digital series, the company will also release a flagship smartphone in the Redmi K series. The Xiaomi 12S series released a few weeks ago has three models including the Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12S Pro and Xiaomi 12S Ultra. According to popular Weibo tech blogger, @DCS, the Xiaomi digital series flagships will use SM8550 (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2). The flagship chip adopts the dual flagship platform strategy. Furthermore, the high-end version of the mobile phone is equipped with a 2K screen.

However, the upcoming Redmi K flagship series will not use the latest Snapdragon processor. In fact, there are reports that it will combine both the Snapdragon and Dimensity flagship chips in the series. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the successor to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and will be manufactured by TSMC. However, just like the 8 Gen 1, the 8 Gen 2 will still use a 4nm manufacturing process. This chip will officially debut in the fourth quarter of this year. MediaTek will also release Dimensity 9000/8000 iterative chips, which will also use TSMC’s 4nm process.

Xiaomi 13 series will use a large battery that supports 100 watts fast charging

The smartphone industry is consistently growing and there is an increase in the technical specification of smartphones. The Android platform requires a lot of resources to run efficiently. Thus, Android manufacturers have no option but to stack in more hardware on their smartphones. A few years ago, a 3000 mAh battery was just enough even for a flagship device. However, with new power-consuming features, a 3000 mAh battery is hardly enough even for an entry-level device.

Considering that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will arrive in November, the Xiaomi 13 may also arrive in November or December. In terms of battery and charging, there is some information. As for the battery capacity, there is no specific information for now. Nevertheless, we have several reports which confirm that the battery capacity will be large. We can safely speculate that it will be 5000 mAh or above.

Furthermore, the company will use a multi-pole single-cell solution for this upcoming flagship smartphone. In addition, this device will support a 100-watt battery which Xiaomi combines with its self-developed fast-charging IC. Although the blogger did not specify the model but based on the self-developed fast charging IC, the smartphone should be the Xiaomi 13 series. In terms of its wireless charging capacity, Xiaomi can not go above 50W. Not just Xiaomi, any smartphone manufacturer that hopes to sell its device in China can not use above 50W wireless charging. This is because there is a law in China that prevents smartphone brands from using wireless fast charging above 50W.

In addition, the blogger said that the single-cell solution is estimated to control the volume of the measurements, so it is expected that the grip of the new Xiaomi Mi 13 series will not be disappointing.

Xiaomi self-developed Surge P2 chip

Xiaomi will have a new self-developed fast charging IC, which should be the Surge P2 chip. For reference, Xiaomi claims that the Surge P1 chip is the industry’s first resonant charging chip, with a 4:1 ultra-high-efficiency architecture with adaptive switching frequency. The resonant topology efficiency is as high as 97.5%, the non-resonant topology efficiency is 96.8%, and the heat loss plummets by 30%. Xiaomi 12 Pro is the first smartphone with the Surge P1 chip, which supports wired 120W charging, 50W wireless second charging and 10W wireless reverse charging. This Xiaomi self-developed chip makes the Xiaomi flagship charge faster and more efficiently.
