Apple seriously needs to rethink its design decisions. Well, the company tends to stick with designs for years and years. The iPhones are a good example of that. Although they get design refreshes more often than other Apple products, we can cite the case of the Notch that has been sticking since the days of the iPhone X in 2017. This year, Apple will finally say goodbye (perhaps, just until the iPhone SE 4 comes) to the notch. It would be great to see more Apple products getting a design refresh like the Apple Mac mini.
Apple Mac mini concept design is promising
The current design of the Mac mini has been around for over a decade. There are a lot of enthusiasts dreaming of something new, that brings the range to modernity, or at least that tries to change the “usual”. There are a lot of concepts across the web, and the latest one comes straight from MacRumors. Precisely, a user from MacRumors forums shared a cool set of images that show his vision of a new Mac mini. There are some similarities with the Apple Mac Studio, and there is nothing wrong with that. Apple could easily borrow some elements, and that also would increase the consistency between the different products in the Mac range.

The user “Rickroller” shared a couple of images with his concept. They show a Mac Studio-like design with significant thermal improvements for the Mac mini. Thermal efficiency often translates to extra performance. In addition to that, the design could also improve the life of users since it shows front-facing USB-C ports and an SDXC card reader.
Interestingly, tipster Jon Prosser shared a couple of images pointing to a Mac mini redesign. The images were from 2021 and pointed to a refresh with the new M-series Mac mini. However, Apple updated the hardware of the Mac mini models last year, and they did not bring significant design changes. The reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo pointed to the lack of a new design in 2022. He is even more pessimistic and says that the new Mac mini models will come in 2024 with the same design. With this in mind, we can say that Apple has basically zero interest in changing the design of the Mac mini.
Right now, the device has a silver aluminum unibody design. This design dates from 2010 and has been used in every Mac mini since then. The biggest “novelty” came in 2018 when Apple introduced a Space Gray color option. Although the concept seems like a “minor design refresh”, it would be a welcome change from the boring recurring design.
