Android 14 will Take Material You to Whole New Level

Google is not just working to make the Android platform more secure and fluid. It also focuses a lot on beauty. Android has gone through a series of UI changes throughout the years. Unlike Apple’s iOS, any major Android update always makes some changes to the user interface. Android 14 is just around the corner, and it will introduce some UI changes as well. Amongst all UI changes, Android 12 brough one of the largest overhauls to the Android OS. Android 12 pioneered the popular Material You design which brought major changes to the Android user interface.

Google’s Material You has been the go-to UI design language for Android since the release of Android 12. However, it’s not always possible to perfectly match the UI with the user’s background. Google is now working on a new theme style named “Fidelity” for Android 14. Google says this new feature could solve this issue.

Google is Working on a Fix for Material You Color Issues Material You

The Material Design team is currently developing Fidelity to add significantly bolder colors to Material You. The current version of Material You tries to match UI color schemes with the wallpaper colors. But it ends up translating primary colors into pale-looking colors. This usually results in muted and blurry outcomes. Fidelity is expected to offer a more vibrant color palette to users than what is currently available.

The colors of Fidelity are not directly available in Android 14 yet. However, the style is already present in Google’s open-source code. According to a report by 9to5Google, the outlet found that it was possible to create a simple demo app displaying what would be possible with Fidelity.

The report shows two screenshots of the demo using the same base color. However, in the current version of Material You, it’s impossible to match this shade of red. As a result, Material You uses the soft red/pink shade in the right image. Fidelity, on the other hand, accurately matches the color, as seen in the left image.

Availability of Fidelity for Material You

It’s unclear when Google will make Fidelity become available to the public. But we hope to hear more about this feature during the upcoming Google I/O event. This event is scheduled to take place on May 10th. With Fidelity, Google could bring more vibrant colors to Material You, which could be the next big thing for Android UI design.
