Apple has finally launched the highly anticipated 15-inch MacBook Air at the 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The new laptop is similar to the 13-inch version but with a larger screen. This is the first time Apple has released a non-pro MacBook with a screen this size.

Apple MacBook Air 15-inch launched as “World’s Thinnest 15-inch Laptop”

The new 15-inch MacBook Air has a similar design to other recent Apple laptops. That is, you get a squared-off body and a metal unibody made from recycled aluminum. It measures 11.5mm in thickness which Apple says makes it the world’s thinnest 15-inch laptop. It weighs just 3.3 pounds, so it’s incredibly portable.

The display is a 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display with 500 nits of brightness and support for 1 billion colors. This makes for a stunning viewing experience, whether you’re watching a movie, editing photos, or working on a project. With its 15-inch size, the new MacBook Air offers a sweet spot between the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models from Apple. It’s a great choice for users who want a larger screen than the 13-inch MacBook Air, but don’t need the power of the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

The new MacBook Air comes with a variety of ports and connectivity options. It has a MagSafe charging port for fast and secure charging, two Thunderbolt ports for connecting external devices, and a 3.5mm headphone jack for listening to music or audio. Additionally, it allows users to connect an external display of up to 6K. The MacBook Air is available in four gorgeous finishes: midnight, starlight, space gray, and silver.

M2 Chip

Apple’s new 15-inch MacBook Air uses the same M2 chip as the 13-inch MacBook Air. The latter was the first laptop to feature the second-generation Apple Silicon chip. Designed for power efficiency, the M2 chip uses a unified memory architecture. It is built on a second-generation 5nm node and has 20 billion transistors.

The M2 chip has eight CPU cores, including four new and improved performance cores and four new and improved efficiency cores. It is also paired with a next-generation GPU, which now has up to 10 cores. This gives the M2 chip a significant performance boost over the previous generation M1 chip. The processor can be configured with up to 24GB of memory.

Compared to the M1, the M2 chip is 18% faster CPU-wise and 35% faster in GPU. Apple says that the chip can handle 4K and 8K videos better than the original M1 chip because of the new media and ProRes video engines.

A three-mic array captures clear audio for video calls, so you always sound your best.

MacOS

The new laptop will come pre-installed with MacOS Sonoma, the latest version of Apple’s operating system. MacOS Sonoma offers universal connectivity for all Apple products, making it easy to work seamlessly across devices. The new OS also includes a number of new features, such as widgets, stunning new screensavers, Game Mode, and a brand new Safari browser.
