Steam Adds Support for PlayStation 4 and 5 Controllers

Steam has been offering support for Xbox controllers for a long time, however, the same love has not been expressed to PlayStation players. Finding games with proper support for PlayStation controllers was not the easiest of the journeys. However, this is finally being addressed by Steam. The latest update finally adds official support for PlayStation controllers that now will work similarly to Xbox controllers. Pairing their controllers and finding games on the platform will be much easier. If you have a PC and PS5 you won’t need to buy a Xbox controller just to play Steam games with a console-like experience. (Source).

Steam Controller Support

The update introduces a new controller-friendly hud. Now it’s much easier to find games that are compatible with PlayStation consoles. You can easily filter the games by the controllers they offer support to.

It’s now easier to find games compatible with specific controllers

While visiting a particular game’s store page, Steam will also list the controllers the game is compatible it. It will further show whether the title has full or partial controller support. The company states that it has added a Steam Input API category. It shows over 200 different controllers that work well with the game.

Similarly, you will be able to check the controller compatibility status in the Steam search as well as in Your Library Section. If one particular controller is recommended, the store will make that message clear to understand as well.

The Steam update also allows the player to check the compatibility status of a title before you decide to purchase it. This will certainly prevent the user from buying games that don’t offer support for their controllers, leaving them disappointed.

A Great Addition for Steam Players

The addition is certainly good news for PlayStation console owners who wish to have a familiar experience when playing games on Steam. Although some PC players are fans of the experience brought by the Keyboard and Mouse, others still prefer joysticks, and having the same controller they use to play on consoles is certainly a great addition to Steam.
