Samsung has started beta testing its One UI 8 software, but One UI 7 still holds the spotlight. While not as massive an upgrade as One UI 6 was, One UI 7 introduces smart visual changes, especially when it comes to how your phone shows charging status. Samsung has also shared useful customization tips that give Galaxy users more control over their devices.
Let’s take a closer look at the changes and how they compare to One UI 6.
Charging Icons Get a Makeover

In One UI 6, the battery icon appears in a vertical format in the status bar, with the percentage displayed next to it. It works fine, but it can clutter your screen, especially if you have lots of notifications or icons.
One UI 7 simplifies this. Now, the home screen only shows the battery percentage in a pill-shaped format at the top-right corner. It removes the traditional icon, creating a cleaner, more modern look. It’s easier on the eyes and helps reduce clutter.
The lock screen also sees a change. In One UI 6, the charging animation appears in the center of the screen when you plug in your device. In One UI 7, the animation has moved to the bottom. It’s more subtle, letting you use your lock screen without unnecessary distractions.
When your screen is off, One UI 7 now shows a soft, dimmed charging pill at the bottom. It adjusts to low-light environments, making it more comfortable to check your phone in the dark. It’s a clear improvement over One UI 6’s full-screen flash animation.
Better Customization Options in One UI 7
Samsung also upgraded the Always On Display (AOD). You can now choose to show the battery percentage while charging, something One UI 6 didn’t support.
To enable this, go to Settings > Lock screen and AOD > Always On Display, and turn it on. From there, you can choose when to show charging info and customize how it appears.
You’ll also find new clock styles, smoother animations, and the Now Bar—an interactive tool that shows live updates from music apps, timers, and more. It makes the lock screen far more useful and engaging.
Overall, One UI 7 isn’t just a visual refresh, it’s a smarter and cleaner way to use your Galaxy phone.
