Samsung just made it a whole lot easier to send money in the U.S. Thanks to a new feature in Samsung Wallet called Tap to Transfer, you can now send cash by simply tapping your phone against someone else’s phone—or even their debit card. No need for account numbers, extra apps, or fumbling for cash.
This feature first rolled out in South Korea and is now making its way to Galaxy users in the U.S. If you’ve got a Samsung phone running Android 12 or newer, plus the latest version of Samsung Wallet, you’re good to go. Just make sure your debit card is from a supported bank and either Visa or Mastercard.
Here’s how it works:
-
Open Samsung Wallet and find your debit card in Quick Access.
-
Tap on Tap to Transfer.
-
Type in how much you want to send, then hit Done.
-
Hold your phone near the other person’s phone—or their contactless debit card—and that’s it.
If the other person is using a Samsung device, you’ll just tap the backs of your phones together. For iPhones or Pixels, have them touch the top of their phone to the back of yours. And if they don’t have a phone on them, tapping their card works too.
Not nearby? No problem. You can also send money remotely. Just search for their phone number in Samsung Wallet, and the money should arrive in a few minutes.
Availability
It is worth noting that this feature does not work with every bank in the U.S yet. There may be limits to certain features with some banks or fees to pay. Therefore, it is advisable to make your checks with your bank before using it.
Nevertheless, Samsung’s Tap to Transfer is a great move by the company. It helps seamless financial transactions since the system already forms part of your phone, without downloading any third-party app.
