It looks like Xbox is finally making a serious move into the VR space — and it’s teaming up with Meta to do it.
According to a report from Kevin Lopez at Game Sandwich, Microsoft is gearing up to unveil the Xbox Quest 3S, a special edition of Meta’s upcoming VR headset that’s been rebranded with Xbox styling and bundled with Xbox-friendly gear. If Lopez’s sources are accurate, the reveal is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24, 2025, which would land just two weeks before the release of Microsoft and ASUS’s ROG Xbox Ally handheld.
Lopez notes that the headset will come in a sleek black finish inspired by Xbox’s design language, and will include a standard Xbox Wireless Controller, an Elite Strap, and a 3-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. In terms of specs, this version appears to match the 128GB Meta Quest 3S, so it’s not a new device from the ground up, more of a rebranded bundle for Xbox fans.
What the Xbox Quest 3S Looks Like
Shortly after Lopez’s article, Twitter user @Zuby_Tech leaked an image of the retail box labeled Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition. The packaging shows both Meta and Xbox logos, and the signature Xbox green makes an appearance along the headset’s edges. Insider Gaming then followed up with its own investigation, confirming that some retailers have reportedly already received early units.
While this isn’t the long-rumored native Xbox VR headset many fans have been waiting for, it’s an interesting and potentially strategic partnership. Lopez’s credibility has been on the rise lately after he accurately reported news about Deadpool VR and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 Remake.
Not a VR Game Console — But Still Xbox Ready
For now, it doesn’t seem like Microsoft is planning to jump into building exclusive VR games. Instead, this move lines up with Xbox’s broader strategy: make Game Pass playable on more platforms, and meet gamers wherever they are.
The new Xbox Quest 3S won’t run Xbox games natively, but it should support Xbox Cloud Gaming — meaning users can stream titles like Forza Horizon 5 or Starfield straight to the headset. That’s something Meta’s existing headsets already support, but this bundle would give the experience more of an “official” feel.
This is also consistent with Xbox’s messaging last year, where they hinted that Meta Quest would become part of the wider Xbox ecosystem.
Launch Imminent?
If the rumored June 24 announcement is real, we won’t have to wait long to find out more. Microsoft appears to be leaning heavily into hardware partnerships this year, following up the ROG Xbox Ally handheld with a branded VR headset just weeks later.
