Lenovo and Google’s first Project Tango Phone could be the PHAB2 Pro sporting a QHD display.
For those of you who don’t know, Project Tango will use sensors to map the area around a device for an augmented reality experience. This could be used to create designs of a room or for AR gaming.
Lenovo are the first company to partner with Google on Project Tango and apparently the phone will feature a large 6.44-inch QHD display. The leak comes from EVleaks who also had a few renders of the device plus a name for it too.
According to the tipster the Lenovo device will be called the Lenovo PHAB2 Pro and would cost under $500 at launch.

Is a Project Tango device likely to find a home with you in the future? and what would you like to see the area mapping tech used for? Let us know in the comments below.
Just bought a nexus 6 (moto) or I would get one
Tango is utterly pointless in phones but a must in glasses. If Lenovo combines it with a Daydream headset and finds some ways to use it, that could work but building the apps will be a lot of work and , at the end of the day, strapping a 200 grams phone to your face is not the great.
is it really cant i just hold up my phone like im taking a picture to look around?
You can do that for a minute a few times and then you’ll get bored.
AR was way overhyped in phones a few years ago,but in the end everybody realized how pointless it is in phones and moved on. Tango isn’t changing anything. Will be a must in glasses and robots but until then ,it is a gimmick.
i see your point lol and probably my hands would get tired lol
With Daydream ,you can turn it into a HoloLens/ Magic Leap like thingy. Not as good though because you would see the world through the cam and latency would make it weird. Still you could find some nice ways to use it. A virtual keyboard would be awesome for people that can’t afford PCs.

Try to imagine 10 different ways to use Tango in a phone and how often you would use each of those.

that’s way too early to buy a project tango device IMHO, I can’t think of any usefull application atm. If i buy a project tango device in the future, it would be google glass based, not a phone i’d have to hold and point in a direction.
very interesting !

one application could be a standardisation of building mapping, automatically uploaded to your device when you enter the building. Then AR kick in to give directions when trying to reach someone or some place inside this building. Like some kind of GPS, but one you can use inside a building, giving 3D informations as well.
so i’ll never have to search for a meeting room for 5 to 10mn… or ask myself which staircase should i take to access my reserved seat in a theatre ^^
very interesting !
