Apple was a little late to implement the OLED display in its devices. But its recent devices sport some impressive OLED displays. Though devices like the iPhone XR still sport an LCD display, We know from reports that this could be the last iPhone to sport a LCD. We now have reports that the 2020 iPhones have OLED displays. Specifically 5.42″ , 6.06″ and 6.67″. The most exciting fact being, The ‘Budget’ iPhone can also be expected to sport a OLED display.
Initially the 2020 iPhones seem to be bigger due to the display sizes. But they are most probably going to remain the same size. The reason being even smaller bezels. The display will definitely have a notch as Face ID cannot be removed. Recently we have seen many manufactures ditch specialized facial bio-metric sensors to make way for smaller bezels. Samsung S10 and Huawei P30 being a few notable examples.

What the reports dont mention clearly is who will be making the displays. If you have been following us, you would have read multiple reports on manufactures competing to make OLED displays for Apple. Samsung is the sole supplier right now and has already offered to make foldable displays for them. Both Samsung and LG have offered to make the 2020 iPhones OLED displays. Samsung calls it Y-OCTA and LG calls it TOE.
Y-OCTA is said to be an advanced display technology that enables the touch layer to be printed directly onto the display making it easier to manufacture while keeping it flexible. LG is yet to showcase or provide more details. It could very much be possible that Samsung stays the primary supplier. If this is true, Dont hope for a iPhone less than 700$
What about the 2019 iPhone?
As for this year the launch will remain similar to last year. Two OlED iPhones and one LCD. Since the new display is kind of a big leap for Apple. We can expect the 2020 iPhone to look redesigned. Which means the 2019 iPhone may end the current design style.
