Apple iPhone Fold May Cost 2,399 Dollars, Says New Report

A new report is making the rounds about Apple’s first foldable iPhone, and the headline figure is hard to ignore: $2,399. That’s the estimated starting price, according to an analyst from Fubon Research who claims to be drawing from supply-chain data. If true, Apple’s foldable will debut well above Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7, which sits at $1,999.

Pricey, yes. But considering Apple rarely enters a new category at the bargain end, it tracks. The analyst points to the usual culprits — the flexible display, hinge design, and a bunch of lightweight structural components that apparently aren’t cheap to make in Apple’s preferred quality range. Apple’s margins also tend to hover on the generous side, so that number didn’t shock me as much as I expected.

What did surprise me is the shipment forecast. Fubon believes Apple could still sell around 15.4 million units, including more than 5 million in 2026. That’s bold for a product nobody has seen publicly, though Apple has a history of attracting early adopters even when the entry fee is steep. The original iPhone, the first iPad Pro, even the Vision Pro had that same “pricey but intriguing” effect.

Rumors about the hardware line up with the premium expectation. The iPhone Fold is said to feature a 7.58-inch inner display that Apple is pushing to keep crease-free. If they manage a genuinely smooth fold, that alone will separate it from most competitors. There’s also talk of a 5.8-inch external screen and a battery larger than the one in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Foldables aren’t exactly known for endurance, so a bigger battery would be a smart play.

Apple has been unusually patient entering the foldable race, which suggests it wants its first attempt to feel polished rather than experimental. A price above two grand positions it not just as a new device, but as the new “top tier above the top tier.” Whether buyers go along with that depends on how well Apple solves the usual foldable gripes — hinge stiffness, screen durability, weight.

Still, if the company nails the feel of the device in hand, that $2,399 might sting less than it sounds on paper. Apple, for better or worse, has pulled that off before.
